Q3 to Q9: which Audi SUV fits your life

Audi builds seven SUV families, from the city-sized Q3 to the full-size Q9. This guide sorts them by size, seats and how you’ll use them, so you can narrow it to two before you visit. Updated November 2026.

Answer three questions

1. How many seats do you need?

  • Five, most days: the Q5, or the Q3 if you want something smaller.
  • Six or seven, every day: the Q9. If the third row is only for carpools and visits, the Q7.

2. Gas or electric?

  • Electric: the Q6 e-tron, or the smaller Q4 e-tron. See our guide to charging at home.
  • Gas: the Q5 for efficiency, or the Q7 for power and towing.

3. How much do you haul?

  • Groceries, gym bags and a stroller: the Q3 or the Q5 Sportback.
  • Hockey bags, a dog crate and the Costco run: the Q5 or the Q8.
  • Luggage for a full third row: the Q9, then the Q7. Read Q7 vs. Q9 for the details.

Room for a full third row and the luggage

The Q9 seats up to seven and still has 19.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third row.

Want more power? Look at the S and RS versions

Most Audi SUVs have a faster S version: the SQ5, SQ6 e-tron, SQ7, SQ8 and SQ9. The RS Q8 performance sits at the top of the range. S models add power and sport tuning. RS models come from Audi Sport and are the fastest Audis you can buy.

quattro® and Pittsburgh winters

Every gas Audi SUV we sell comes with quattro® all-wheel drive, and so does the 2027 Q6 e-tron. Add a set of winter tires and you’re set for our hills from November to March. See quattro® Season and our Pittsburgh winter driving guide.

quattro® all-wheel drive is standard on every gas Audi SUV. Add winter tires and you’re ready for our hills.

How to test drive two SUVs back to back

The fastest way to choose is to drive your top two on the same day. Here’s what to check.

  • Bring what you haul every week: car seats, a stroller, golf clubs or a dog crate.
  • Sit in every row you’ll actually use, including the third row on a Q7 or Q9.
  • Drive your own roads. Include a hill, a highway merge and your tightest parking spot.
  • Check how it fits your garage. The Q9 is 209 inches long. The Q3 is the easiest to park.
  • Ask to see the window sticker so you can compare equipment, not just models.
