Audi tires and wheels
Check your tread every month and your pressure every few weeks. Here’s how, when to replace, and why quattro® cares about matched tires. Updated November 2026.
When to replace your tires
Age matters too. Rubber hardens over time, so have older tires checked even if the tread still looks deep.
Check your tread with a coin
- Penny test: put Lincoln’s head down into a groove. If you can see the top of his head, you’re at 2/32" or less. Replace now.
- Quarter test: put Washington’s head down into a groove. If you can see the top of his head, you’re under 4/32". Start shopping.
- Check the inside, middle and outside of each tire. Uneven wear can mean the alignment is off.
Check your tire pressure
Use the pressures on the sticker in the driver’s door jamb, not the number on the tire sidewall. Check when the tires are cold, before you drive.
Pressure drops as temperatures fall, so cold Pittsburgh mornings often trigger the tire pressure light. Check more often from November through March.
Why quattro® needs matched tires
quattro® all-wheel drive sends power to all four wheels. Tires with very different tread depths turn at slightly different speeds, which adds strain to the drivetrain.
Check your owner’s manual before you replace only one or two tires. We can measure the tires you have left and tell you whether they’re close enough to keep.
