Audi Q9 vs. Escalade, GLS and X7
Four full-size luxury SUVs, each good at something. Here’s how the new Audi Q9 lines up, with honest trade-offs. Updated November 2026.

Figures from each maker’s published specifications and may change. Equipment varies by trim; check each maker’s site for the exact model you’re comparing.
Where each one shines
- Audi Q9: the most power of the group’s base engines, standard air suspension and quattro®, and room for luggage behind the third row.
- Cadillac Escalade: the longest, with the most cargo space and up to eight seats.
- Mercedes-Benz GLS: a smooth inline-6 and a well-known luxury cabin.
- BMW X7: sporty handling for its size.

How to compare them fairly
Spec sheets only go so far. If you’re shopping two or three of these, check the same things in each.
- Third row: sit back there yourself, with the second row set where your family uses it.
- Cargo with every seat up: bring a suitcase or a stroller and load it behind the third row.
- Garage fit: all four are long. The Q9 is 209 inches and the Escalade is about 212.
- Ride: drive each over the same rough road. Ask whether air suspension is standard on the trim you’re looking at.
Compare equipment trim to trim, not base price to base price.
