Choose the A5 if…

  • You want a sporty feel and a lower price of entry.
  • You haul bikes, strollers or boxes. The hatch opens wide.
  • You’re coming out of an A4.

Choose the A6 if…

  • You want V6 power and a quieter ride.
  • Rear-seat passengers ride with you often.
  • You spend long days on the highway.

What you’ll notice on the road

  • Power: the A6’s 362-horsepower V6 pulls harder than the A5’s 268-horsepower four-cylinder.
  • Quiet: the A6 is built for a calmer, quieter ride on long highway days.
  • Loading: the A5’s lift-up hatch makes boxes and bikes easier than the A6’s trunk.
  • Parking: the A5 is the smaller of the two and a little easier in tight spots.

Want A6 power in the A5 body? The S5 also makes 362 horsepower.

The rest of Audi’s midsize sedans

The A5 and A6 are the starting points. Each one has faster and electric versions, so you can match the body you like to the power you want.

  • S5: the A5 body with 362 horsepower, the same as the A6. A good pick if you want A6 power with the A5’s hatch.
  • RS 5: a plug-in hybrid from Audi Sport with 630 horsepower. The top of the A5 family.
  • A6 Sportback e-tron: the electric A6, with 375 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, or 456 horsepower with quattro®.
  • S6 Sportback e-tron: the faster electric version, with 543 horsepower.

Which one fits a Pittsburgh commute?

If most of your driving is short trips and city streets, the A5 is easy to park and easy to load. If you drive the Parkway or I-79 every day, the A6’s V6 and quieter cabin make long stretches more relaxed. If you can charge at home, the A6 Sportback e-tron gives you the A6’s size without stopping for gas.

Every gas version comes with quattro® all-wheel drive, which matters on our hills from November to March.

Lease or buy?

Both work well either way. If you like a new car every few years and drive a predictable number of miles, leasing keeps payments lower and puts you in the newest model sooner. If you drive a lot or like to keep a car for years, buying usually costs less over time. Current lease and finance offers change every month, so ask us for this month’s numbers on both models before you decide. We’ll put them side by side so you can compare the A5 and A6 payment for payment. If you have a trade, bring it along and we’ll include its value in both comparisons, so you see your real numbers.
