Audi e-tron® range in a Pittsburgh winter
Every electric vehicle goes less far on a cold day, and Audi e-tron® models are no exception. The good news: a few simple habits keep most of that range, and for typical Pittsburgh commuting, a home charger makes winter a non-issue. Here's what to expect and how to plan.
Why range drops in the cold
Three things add up. Batteries deliver energy less efficiently when they're cold. Heating the cabin takes energy that a gas engine would get from waste heat. And cold air and stiffer tires add a little drag. How much range you lose depends on the temperature, your speed and how warm you keep the cabin.
How to keep more of your range
Precondition the car while it's still plugged in, using the myAudi app, so the battery and cabin warm up on grid power. Charge at home overnight. Use the heated seats and steering wheel, which use less energy than heating all the cabin air. Park in a garage when you can.
Winter road trips
Plan a little more charging on long winter drives, because DC fast charging is slower when the battery is cold. Using the car's built-in navigation to route to a fast charger lets the car warm the battery on the way, so it charges faster when you arrive.
Choosing the right Audi EV for winter
Every Audi e-tron® model has quattro® all-wheel drive available and heated seats for winter comfort. Our sales team can help you compare range and charging speed across the Q4 e-tron®, Q6 e-tron®, A6 e-tron® and e-tron® GT for the way you drive.
Drive one this winter
The best way to judge winter range is to drive an Audi e-tron® on your own roads. Schedule a test drive, or call 412-324-2509 with questions.
